With reference to my despatoh Number

978 of 13th July, forwarding copies of telegraph-

10 correspondence relative to the approval by

the Government of Hongkong of the proposed ap-

pointment of Er. Liu Kuo-ahen as Director of the

Chinese Telegraph uffice in the Colony, I have

the honour to transmit herewith a copy of a

letter from the Minister for Foreign Affairs,

notifying me of Mr. Liu's appointment and quali–

fications. A copy of my reply to Dr. Wang is

also enclosed herein.
